Qemists, Mike Farris, Max Justus

It's Got A Beat To It

The Qemists are all about Drum & Bass, verging on Rock & Bass, but here they are remixed by Killer On The Dancefloor for a more housey feel, but still with a healthy dollop of Rock! This is called 'Lost Weekend'.

It's Got A Guitar In It

A slight cheat this one, as it does have guitar, but mostly in the background. It's an enjoyable slice of blues-tinged gospel music from Mike Farris, complete with a great chorus of backing singers and brass, called 'I'm Gonna Get There'.

It's A Bit Random

Finally, we go a bit wobbly and distinctly low-tech for a beautiful bit of electronica from Max Justus. This is Ctrl_Alt_Dance.

07/10/2008 - Joseph Capriati, Sunset Rubdown, Northie

It's Got A Beat To It

I do like a bit of techno, I do. Definitely not for you if you're looking for something resembling a distinct tune, but if you do like this kind of thing then close your eyes, nod along and embrace the darkness. This is 'Oasi' by Joseph Capriati.

It's Got A Guitar In It

Sunset Rubdown are an indie band from Canada, and this song has the name 'Trumpet, Trumpet, Toot! Toot!' The opening is very James Bond. It's a great, distinct noise.

SUNSET RUBDOWN - TRUMPET, TRUMPET, TOOT! TOOT!

It's A Bit Random

Can you guess, within the first minute of this track, which famous children's television programme is being remixed here? It's a slamming tune anyway, by Northie, called 'Wowsers!' (which is a character catchphrase-related clue for you).

Dskotek, Railroad Earth, Mr Oizo

It's Got A Beat To It

Some electro mayhem goodness in the mix today. This is 'Get Going' by Dskotek.

It's Got A Guitar In It

Not just guitars today, but quite a bit of banjo too! I don't often go for country music but this really caught my ear. Railroad Earth are from the good old US of A, as it should be fairly easy to tell, and describe their music as folk rock. This track, 'Been Down This Road', is a lot more folk than rock.

It's A Bit Random

I was debating whether or not to put this track up. It's by Mr Oizo, of 'Flatbeat' fame, and is very random and very odd. I can't really describe it, you'll just have to listen. Enjoy 'Z'!

02/10/2008 - Robosonic, Frightened Rabbit, Lisa Germano

It's Got A Beat To It

Up for something quite tasty but minimal? Yes? Good. There's a quality bassline here that demands your attention. It really gets going halfway through. This tune is 'Kaputt In Hollywood' by Robosonic, the Santiago & Bushido remix.

It's Got A Guitar In It

Frightened Rabbit hail from Glasgow. There's some guitar in this, not masses, but it's just a lovely song. The tune is called 'My Backwards Walk'.

It's A Bit Random

This is beautiful, with its arrangement of strings, percussion and other world sounds coupled with the voice of Lisa Germano. The track is called 'Around The World'.

29/09/2008 - Justice, Shearwater, Foxes!

It's Got A Beat To It

Here's a cool track. From the opening harpsichord music you know it's going to be something a bit different, and it does have a very gothic feel to it. There is something of Daft Punk about it, but this tune is by the fantastic Justice. It's called 'Planisphere'.

It's Got A Guitar In It

'Rooks' by Shearwater is well crafted, simple, yet with enough satisfying layers to make you smile broadly.

It's A Bit Random

Yes it is indeed. I'm not sure what to think of this jolly, home made affair. I think I like it mostly for its title - 'It's Ridiculous, Adam' by Foxes!

26/09/08 - MGMT, Wild Sweet Orange, Ulrich Schnauss

It's Got A Beat To It

MGMT are hot property right now. Here's their tune 'Kids', remixed wonderfully by Soulwax. It's a bit faster and heavier than the original, but retains much of the magical qualities of the original.

It's Got A Guitar In It

Wild Sweet Orange hail from Birmingham, Alabama, and play rock/indie music that they say has a yearning for connection, and a cathartic emotion to it. Here's their tune 'Either/Or' from debut album 'We Have Cause To Be Uneasy'.

It's A Bit Random

What do you know about Ulrich Schnauss? Nope, I don't know much either other than he's from Germany, but I do love this song! It's called 'Look At The Sky'.
